Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid Introduction and Application

Phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid is an organic compound used in sunscreens and other cosmetic products containing sunscreen because of its ability to block UVB rays. According to Wikipedia, UV absorber UV-T is also known as Ensuizole in the United States. Phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid can block UVB rays, but 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid does not protect against all bands of UVA rays; for this reason, 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid is often used in combination with other ingredients, including avobenzone, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or Tinosorb. Its protective ability and protective quality do not gradually decrease over time under sunlight, so 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid can to some extent slow down the decomposition of other UVB blocking agents in sunscreen. Phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid can also convert incoming ultraviolet radiation into less harmful infrared radiation or heat energy.

Properties: White powder, almost odorless. Insoluble in vaseline, olive oil, isopropyl palmitate, soluble in ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, partially soluble in water. It is a UV sunscreen.
