Beta-Rhodinol Application


Citronellol is a terpene. Molecular formula C10H20O. Natural essential oils contain right or left-handed citronellol and its racemates. D-citronellol mainly exists in Yunxiang oil, lemongrass oil, and lemon eucalyptus oil; L-citronellol is mainly found in essential oils of rose oil and geranium plants. D-citronellol has a boiling point of 244.4 ℃, a density of 0.8590 g/cm3 (20 ℃), and a specific optical rotation of+6.8 °. L-citronellol has a boiling point of 108-109 ℃ (10 mmHg), a relative density of 0.859 (18/4 ℃), and a temperature of -5.3 ° C. Both are colorless liquids with a sweet rose fragrance, and the aroma of the left-handed form is more elegant than that of the right-handed form. Dissolve in ethanol and ether. Lemongrass alcohol is more stable than geraniol. Dehydrogenation or oxidation of citronellol to produce citral.
Dextrose and racemic citronellol are produced from the citral portion of essential oils; Citronellol can also be produced from right-handed or racemic vanillin in essential oils; Citronellol can also be obtained by partial hydrogenation of a mixture of synthesized geraniol and nerolidol; Alternatively, copper chromite activated by barium in isopropanol can be produced by reaction at 180 ℃ under pressure, with a yield of 90%, which is an industrial method; L-citronellol can also be produced from optically active pinene.
